THIS SPECTACULAR TWO-BEDROOM CONDO WAS A MODEL APARTMENT FOR A NEW BUILDING IN GREENWICH VILLAGE BY THE ARCHITECTURE FIRM KOHN PEDERSEN FOX. FOR THE BUILDING’S INTERIORS, THE DEVELOPER ENLISTED LUXURY MARKETPLACE 1stDibs ALONG WITH A GROUP OF LEADING INTERIOR DESIGNERS TO CREATE A SHOWCASE FOR POTENTIAL BUYERS. WITH NO REAL “CLIENT” TO DESIGN THE SPACE FOR, PART OF THE PROJECT INCLUDED CREATING A PROFILE OF SOMEONE WHO MIGHT PURCHASE THIS PROPERTY. THE FICTITIOUS CLIENT WAS A YOUNG, SINGLE CELEBRITY LOOKING FOR A MODERN, GLAMOUROUS AESTHETIC.

MR WAS ASSIGNED A 3RD AND 4TH FLOOR CORNER APARTMENT OVERLOOKING EIGHTH AVENUE. THE LOWER- LEVEL SPACE WAS STYLISHLY MODERN AND SPACIOUS, BUT IT NEEDED LAYERING. TO COMPENSATE, THE FIREPLACE WAS CLAD IN SMOKED MIRROR THAT REFLECTED VIEWS FROM OUTSIDE. A CURTAIN WAS INSTALLED TO SOFTEN THE LIVING AREA’S MASSIVE SHEETROCK WALL AND, AT THE SAME TIME, CONCEAL A DOOR TO THE LAUNDRY. IN THE VOLUMINOUS PUBLIC AREAS, INTIMATE NOOKS INCLUDING A LOUNGE BESIDE THE FIREPLACE AND A DINING AREA UNDER THE STAIRS WERE CREATED. UPSTAIRS, ONE GOAL WAS TO MAXIMIZE SPACE IN THE BEDROOMS WHICH WERE MORE MODEST IN SIZE. A BED WAS FLOATED IN THE PRIMARY BEDROOM TO CREATE A SENSE OF SPACIOUSNESS. AND SINCE THERE WAS LITTLE WALL SPACE, THE SELECTED ARTWORK INCLUDED A FREESTANDING SCULPTURE AND A PAINTING ON A CUSTOM- DESIGNED STEEL STAND.
